UPDATED: January 5, 2026
I now have a paid subscriber tier for Romancing the Data! If you enjoy my content, use the resources I've created, participate in my voting brackets and polls—please consider becoming a paid subscriber.
My dream is to continue devoting time to this work, but I also need money to live. Capitalism is a such a drag 😂
To sweeten the deal, I’m offering a bit of extra romancing to paid subscribers. For the low price of US$5/month, you’ll get access to my:
Monthly analysis of Amazon Kindle Store Top 100 Best Sellers in Romance
Monthly analysis of New York Times Combined Print & E-book Fiction Best Sellers with focus on romance
Monthly update on Romance Bookstore growth, activity and trends
Suggestion box for questions for my regular Romance Reader Pulse Check poll on Instagram.
Annual paid subscribers (US$50/year) get the added benefit of access to the Insider Romance Bookstore Directory in Google Sheets.
My Story
I started Romancing the Data in 2024 after being laid off from my corporate communications job of 16 years. After years of the 9-5 grind, I was looking for a creative outlet. The idea sparked after a book club meeting, when I had the urge to (wait for it…) create a spreadsheet to organize a list of romance books. I thought, how can I combine my love of data and spreadsheets with my passion for romance books? 🤓📊💜📚
Inspired by the amazing Bachelor Data account on Instagram, my brain started buzzing with ideas and it hasn’t really stopped since! And honestly, I’m feeling the happiest and most creatively fulfilled I have in a long time.
Since then, I’ve determined my 3 main goals for Romancing the Data are to:
Conduct and share awesome data analysis about romance books
Create helpful resources for romance readers
Spread joy within the romance community
In addition to the paid subscriber benefits listed above, you’ll also be supporting all the other research and resources I’m working on.
Best of the Best Romance Books
I started Romancing the Data with the launch of my Best of the Best series, which identifies and ranks the best romance books by analyzing numerous best-of lists in a category to determine which books appeared on the most lists. So far, I’ve published five lists, including:
Plus, I’m launching a new list next week!
If you’re someone who gets overwhelmed by too many lists and recommendations, you might find my meta-analysis approach—which essentially combines the results of many lists—to be helpful!

Romance Directories
To help readers navigate the world of romance books, I’ve started creating handy directories to house the romance data I compile. Designed to be easily searched and filtered, the directories include:
Romance Bookstores: Directory of online, physical, and pop-up romance bookstores, with a map of all the physical stores.
Romance Book Events: Directory of romance book events in the United States, Canada, and online. These are events for readers that have a significant romance focus and feature multiple authors.
Romance Book Podcasts: Directory of 260+ active and inactive romance book podcasts.
Best Romance Books: Directory of all the “Best of the Best” romance books, based on my analysis of 135+ best-of book lists.

Voting Brackets
Running an epic romance voting bracket was another idea I had early on for Romancing the Data. I made it happen in February 2025 with the Lisa Kleypas Historical Hero Showdown and it was SO. MUCH. FUN. Check out the video below to see highlights from the two weeks of voting, during which romance fans cast 7,629 votes!! I’ve since run two sponsored voting brackets with Kresley Cole and Ruby Dixon.
Voting Brackets

Immortals After Dark Lords of the Lore Voting Bracket (May 2025)
Ice Planet Barbarians Coolest Couple Voting Bracket (September 2025)
Romance Research
I recently launched the Romance Reader Pulse Check, a regular Instagram poll about the reading habits and preferences of romance readers. As a paid subscriber, you will be able to suggest questions for the poll.
I also share lots of other romance-related data—to date I’ve covered topics like romance bookstores, romance book podcasts, Canadian romance authors, and Canadian libraries.
If you’re unable to take on a new subscription at this time, I also accept donations through Ko-fi.
Thank you so much for your support!
And, as always, happy reading!
💜 Lady Jane
